One of the special memories of my early childhood is being put to bed with my godly mother singing us to sleep with the following hymn:

Jesus, tender Shepherd, hear me;
Bless Thy little lamb tonight;
Through the darkness be Thou near me,
Watch my sleep till morning light.

All this day Thy hand hath led me,
And I thank Thee for Thy care;
Thou hast kept, and clothed, and fed me;
Listen to my humble prayer.

What my joyno tongue can tell;
Fit, O Lord, as Thine for heaven,
Happy there with Thee to dwell
